Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to Fanto Group's FAQ page. Below you will find some important information to help you with your lighting project:

Question Answer
How can we become a LEED certified building? There are various levels of LEED certification lighting. Please contact our office for details (407-857-5101).
Why should I invest in a lighting control system?

Dimming and switching control systems have numerous advantages.

  • They can be set to raise/lower light levels at any given time schedule
  • Double the life of your incandescent lamps
  • Provide energy savings
  • Provide control without human interaction
What is the most cost effective lighting solution? There is no one certain answer. A lot depends on the application. With the technical improvement of light emitting diodes (LED's), they are well on their way. Fluorescent lighting is still the most cost efficient type of lighting in way of all around cost. (Fixture price & energy consumption)
Are low pressure sodium fixtures in turtle sensitive areas the only application we can use? No, various light sources can be used with 650 nm.
What is Kelvin temperature on a lamp and what does it mean? Kelvin is a measure of the color appearance of a light source which helps describe the apparent "warmth" (reddish) or "coolness" (bluish) of that light source. Generally, light sources below 3200K are considered "warm;" while those above 4000K are considered "cool". The color temperature of a lamp has nothing to do with how hot the lamp will get or how much heat is given off by the lamp. The letter, K, stands for Kelvin.
What is rapid start ballast? A fluorescent ballast system that does not require starters and takes 1 to 2 seconds to emit light. The ballast preheats the electrodes within the fluorescent lamp and initiates the arc without a starter or the application of high voltage.
What is a quartz re-strike fixture? Restrike option is used with an HID type fixture provided with a quartz lamp to provide emergency lighting. Upon power glitches or short duration failures of power, the HID fixture takes between five to fifteen minutes to cool and restrike. The quarts lamp provides the light illumination until the restrike occurs. Companies now have ballasts that can fill in for the power loss or failure eliminating the need for the quartz restrike.
For lamps, what does the 16 in MR 16 or the 30 in Par 30 mean? Lamps are sized by 1/8th of inch markings. So, an MR16 lamp is sixteen 1/8th in size and a Par 30 is thirty 1/8th in size as well as a T8 lamp being eight 1/8th in size.
